Are you installing Christmas Lights?

27-Nov-2014

It's that time of year again, everyone is getting into the Christmas spirit by decking their house with Christmas lights and entering competitions for the best display.

Did you know that festive lighting stored for 11 months can be subject to heat, humidity and possibly inspects or rodents.  You should have your lighting checked by a qualified electrician before re-using these festive lights.

Christmas lighting must be installed in a safe manner so circuits are not overloaded, while any electrical works need to be done by a qualified electrician.

For peace of mind look into additional safeguards such as fitting an approved safety switch to all Christmas lighting installations and turning them off when going to bed.

You should also check for any product recalls.  A list of recalled products can be found at www.electricalsafety.qld.gov.au.

Also consider the potential impact installing these lights will have on your power bill to avoid bill shock.  Choose solar powered and/or LED lights over the standard incandescent lights.  Limit the time lights are on - turn them on later in the evening and off when you go to bed.  Use timers to limit light displays to no more than 4 evening hours a day.

Give us a call if you have any questions about your festive lights or would like an inspection of your lights.
